Taking a look at a hard copy newspaper, and you will see why this beloved piece of morning routine has lasted so long. Things like the sports page allows for those that like to bet to see numbers and statistics. But more importantly, they can take it with them sans cords or battery packs. There is just something unique about an inky paper that brings back memories of morning coffee and funny pages.

The entertainment sections provide movie review and articles pertaining to the latest and greatest of Hollywood royalty, but the days of movie stars being the headliners are a thing of the past. Entertainment magazines have taken over that forum, and it is just as well, there are more important things to read like horoscopes, and sales.

When you think about it, the newspaper is a great way to experience the world around you, to feel informed and educated. That was the intention when it first came into print. To share the world with one reader at a time.

Recently, we bit our nails watching CNN - wondering whether or not the U.S. Government wouldl actually shut down.

We wonder if the gorgeous new “Tea Party” candidate will be thrust in front of us for the next couple of years until we can’t bear looking at her any longer.

What is entertainment these days?

During the reign of JFK we certainly didn’t flip on our cable in search of entertainment via the latest political news, did we? Current events were described within a couple of days in our local newspapers, and we oohed and aahed over them at that point. We picked up our old corded phones and shared the latest happenings with our families and friends. Now, the latest events are tracked via electronic media, and old news is something that happened fifteen minutes ago. Maybe that serves to take the mystery out of the media, does it not?

So where does that bring us? The latest weather, tragedy, world calamities and suffering is what keeps everyone tuned in. Is it that misery in others makes us somehow feel superior? Do we truly want to help? If so, the media has truly served its purpose in making us aware, in joining us as we could never have been mere decades ago.

When we think of our parents or grandparents’ generations, we ponder how they may have deemed today’s electronics and world progression. We wonder: Would they have been truly mystified, thrown into a “Jetson” type futuristic drama? It makes us seriously consider – where will WE BE in twenty years……

Crime And children

The increasing criminal tendency in children is one of the main subjects of debates and discussions. Studies reveal that there is a considerable amount of increase in the incidents of committing crime among children. It is a not something to be ignored. It is definitely a matter of great concern. What are the possible factors which contribute to the growth of this behavior in children? Through a thorough and deep analysis of the different factors which can affect the behavioral patterns of a child, we can prevent the abnormal rise in the rate of crime among children. You can find that a majority of these reasons are related to the social, economic and cultural background of a child.

Social factors begin right from the family. Parents should be a model to their children. Children constantly observe their parents and try to imitate. Any problem in the marital relationship in the parents will affect the peaceful atmosphere of the family. This will create a mental strain in the children. This may develop into a criminal nature later. If the partners are divorced the children generally stay with their mother. It will be difficult for the children to be away from their father. This may cause mental strain in them. Children will experience a sense of insecurity. Usually, if the mother is not employed or not having a good job the children will suffer from financial crisis and poverty.

These are possible reasons for developing criminal nature. Friendship is another factor which contributes to this. It should be made sure that the children are having good friends. Friends can direct them towards criminal activity. Increased influence of media also may mislead children. Wrong concept of heroism should not be propagated. In many stories, heroes are thieves or robbers with extra ordinary brilliance and talents. All these will create a negative sense of heroism in children. We can find that all the major factors are related to social, economical and cultural backgrounds of the children and can be prevented with a conscious effort.

Crime And The Society

Crime is the kind of act which is not acceptable by the society and is always harmful for us. Most of the people who act in a crime are the people who are unsatisfied by the society or they do not get what they wanted. So the easiest way to overcome from this anxiety, they feel, is to do crime.

Crime can be of many types. It can be a Theft, Robbery, Murder , Rape or an attack. Some people fell good when they commit a crime. It makes them feel happy from inside. Young people get indulged in crime because they get fascinated by the things of physical world. And due to lack of money the best way they find is to do crimes like theft, robbery or cheating somebody. Brothers do the crime of killing their own brothers in greed of land or money. There have been many cases when a criminal does a crime just for his joy. Making others suffer makes them happy. These kind of people are names psychos in our society.

Most of the time crime is done in anger or in the rage. Eighty percent of the crimes are done under the depression or anger. Some people do crime to take revenge of the murder or insult done to their loved ones. Crime is directly associated with illiteracy. Illiterate people do not know the kind of price they may have to when they do a crime. This deprives them from the fear of law and they easily do the desired crime.

Nowadays due to the expansion of the internet, people are inventing numerous kind of crimes. Everyday people are cheated by using the internet.

All of us listen to news. It has become a part of our daily routine. Listening to news is considered as a healthy habit. All of us have right to information. All these have strengthened journalism. The media has developed greatly and reaches to even remote areas.

They conduct opinion polls and thus public opinion about various affairs can be collected. Direct interviews of witnesses and victims help to portray the real picture of a particular incident. We can even get news through Cell Phones through internet. This is the magic of television and media.

Increasing Rate Of Crime

One of the major issues in the world which is of great concern is the alarmingly increasing rate of crime. Thousands of crimes are reported in a day around the world. The rate is noticeably increasing day by day. It is a threat to the existence of humanity. Human beings are the most powerful species in the world. All other things are under his control. He has no threats from any other factor. He himself is the enemy of his existence.

In primitive society, the solidarity was maintained by strict rules and punishments. Society as a whole was given importance rather than individuals. Individuals were to contribute to the solidarity of the society. But now, there is a considerable amount of change in this concept. Now the members of the society enjoy high level of freedom. This leaves cracks in social institutions.

Marriage is an important social institution. It is the first step towards the formation of family. Family is the smallest unit of society. Problems in the marital relationship create negative impacts in the society. The increased divorce rate is considered to be one of the factors which contribute to the increased rate of crime. The dissolution of existed relationship creates mental strain and depression which if remains unidentified, is likely to develop criminal mentality in the divorcees. The children of divorced parents are more likely to develop criminal nature. The feeling of insecurity is more in them than the other children. They may also suffer from financial problem or even poverty. All these contribute to criminal nature.

Some individual have a tendency to commit crime by birth. These people are more dangerous than others. The influence of electronic media also contributes to the increasing rate of crime. People, including children will get exposure to many criminal acts and ideas through these. An uncontrolled increase will have catastrophic effects.

Colorado Politics

The recent elections saw the Democrats lose simultaneous control of both the organs of the Legislature to the Republicans. This means that they will now have to share power with the Republicans. The Democrat governor may have the final word as far as the administration of the state is concerned but that does not mean that Republicans will allow any and every law to be passed by the governor.

In such a scenario, there are worries that the reform process and the process of economic recovery may be hit by the competition between Democrats and Republicans. However, in a departure from the acrimonious approach between the two parties at the national level, the Colorado governor elect has said that he was not keen on campaigning against the Republicans because if he was already prepared to share power with them. Till date, the parties have made all the right noises as far as reform and regulation is concerned. Republicans have groused that Democrats are imposing too many regulations in the name of reforming the business.

On the other hand, the Democrats are worried that Republicans will forestall any attempt to restore order to the markets and restore confidence of the ordinary man on the street. The same had been shaken because of the Wall Street crisis and the general perception that the investment bankers were responsible for the tattered shape of the economy today. The primary emphasis of both the parties seems to be on improving employment numbers.

However, despite the nice talk, it remains to be seen whether both the parties will be in a position to translate their good intentions into real action at the ground level. There is a possibility that the more acrimonious issues like health care reform and repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy may affect state politics and the administration of the government in the state of Colorado.
