The recent elections saw the Democrats lose simultaneous control of both the organs of the Legislature to the Republicans. This means that they will now have to share power with the Republicans. The Democrat governor may have the final word as far as the administration of the state is concerned but that does not mean that Republicans will allow any and every law to be passed by the governor.

In such a scenario, there are worries that the reform process and the process of economic recovery may be hit by the competition between Democrats and Republicans. However, in a departure from the acrimonious approach between the two parties at the national level, the Colorado governor elect has said that he was not keen on campaigning against the Republicans because if he was already prepared to share power with them.

Till date, the parties have made all the right noises as far as reform and regulation is concerned. Republicans have groused that Democrats are imposing too many regulations in the name of reforming the business.

On the other hand, the Democrats are worried that Republicans will forestall any attempt to restore order to the markets and restore confidence of the ordinary man on the street. The same had been shaken because of the Wall Street crisis and the general perception that the investment bankers were responsible for the tattered shape of the economy today.

The primary emphasis of both the parties seems to be on improving employment numbers. However, despite the nice talk, it remains to be seen whether both the parties will be in a position to translate their good intentions into real action at the ground level.

There is a possibility that the more acrimonious issues like health care reform and repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy may affect state politics and the administration of the government in the state of Colorado.
